story is so important to our lives, often by the sharing of Stories we explain who we are to others and cement strong relationships with friends and family

The sharing of unconditional love lies at the heart of our existance

Life is a journey, it brings us joy and happiness as well as heartbreak and loss. There are few certainties in life, but there is no doubt that we gain meaning from our close relationships with others and that the sharing of unconditional love lies at the heart of our existence. Throughout history, jewellery has been

seen as symbolic of love shared and a life event marked, through its giving and receiving. The jewellery that we wear whether it be given as a gift or chosen by ourselves bares witness to our life story and over time becomes empowered by the many stories relating to our lives so developing its own ever-increasing emotionally charged energy.

It is amazing that such tiny objects can tap into the heart of our existence

I am both respectful of and fascinated by the emotional power that jewellery can often hold for people. It is amazing that such small objects can tap into the heart of our existence and become symbolic of the love we have for our partner, family, children, and our friendships.

Jewellery can mark personal success or challenge overcome, it can hold the highly personal story of a love lost but never forgotten. Jewellery which is bestowed in this way means so much more to us than its physical self or financial worth.

Each piece of jewellery that comes to me for re-styling carries with it an emotionally charged story, relating to its past or present owner. The past human lives that pre-loved jewellery has born witnesses to and the life stories both past and present that these pieces of jewellery carry with them are both fascinating and intriguing.

During my work as a goldsmith, I have had the pleasure of meeting many clients who have brought treasured pieces of jewellery to me for restyling. Often these pieces have lain hidden away in a drawer for years, kept but never to be worn.

While styles in jewellery come and go, we could never be parted from the pieces of jewellery which hold our past story as they contain an emotional value for us that is forever constant and never to be lost.

One of the many lovely stories which have been shared with me by my clients is as follows.

A sapphire pendant was given to my client’s Mother on her wedding day during the 1960s by her father. My client’s grandfather had brought the vivid blue sapphire back from the Far East where he was serving in the British Army during the War, years later he had it set into a pendant to give to his daughter on her wedding day.

As a child, my client fondly remembered her mother wearing the pendant and being fascinated by the beautiful blue colour of the sapphire.

worn by her mother in many family photographs across the years

The pendant could be seen being worn by her Mother in many family photographs across the years. My client told me that over time her Mother’s pendant only came out on special occasions, ultimately to be left to my client in her Mother’s will.

My client came to me to have the beautiful sapphire reset together with some small diamonds from a pre-loved ring. I worked with her on a new design creating a new ring from both unworn pieces of jewellery. The new design retains the essence of the history of each piece and continues an unbroken link to the family’s past story
